Álvaro González hailed the defensive solidity shown by the Yellow Submarine against Valencia
Villarreal defender Álvaro González analysed the point earned in the derby against Valencia (0-0) for Villarreal CF TV. The 28-year-old centre-back hailed the high standard of the Yellow Submarine’s back line during the 90 minutes: “We controlled the game, we knew how to deal with their threat. They were waiting for our errors to break on a counter. We were at a very high level defensively both being vigilant against possible attacks as well as defending when they were in our area. We carried out a complete match but we lacked efficiency to get the three points.”
Furthermore, the Yellows defender underlined the notable defensive stats at the start of the season: “In five matches, we’ve kept a clean sheet in three of them. Solidity is the first step to getting three points. What’s more, we’re playing enough football to score more goals.”
Finally, Villarreal’s No.3 recognised that the Yellow Submarine are expecting a competitive game against Athletic Club at San Mamés this Wednesday (8pm). “They’re a tough team, especially at San Mamés. We have to carry on with our idea of taking the initiative and counteract their play,” he concluded.
