Javi Calleja was grateful and optimistic after officially renewing his contact until 2019
Villarreal CF Manager, Javi Calleja, was grateful after his contract was officially renewed for the first team for the 2018/19 season. The event took place in the press room at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva) and was led by club President, Fernando Roig.
“It was always my wish to stay and the club has shown their confidence in me from the start. Now we’re thinking about next season and we want to do an even better job. There will never be any problems in prolonging the agreement, we’re all really happy. I hope to be here for many years to come. We can’t wait for next season. We’re ambitious and we will try to do even better”, Calleja commented.
For Calleja, to have finished fifth in LaLiga is a worthy achievement: “We have to value what we are doing at Villarreal. This has become a club that has a tradition of playing European football and that’s not easy. It’s down to everyone that works at the club. We have to congratulate everybody”.
Roig: “It was an excellent season”
For his part, Villarreal CF President, Fernando Roig, described the performance by the first team under Javi Calleja as an “excellent” season: “We’ve had an excellent season. For the fifth consecutive year we’ve qualified to play in Europe and that is a great success. It may seem easy, but it’s not. Javi has more than earned his contract renewal. I congratulate him for everything he has achieved this season. I’m very happy that he’ll be continuing for another season. He’s a man of the club, hardworking and honest”.
The Yellows President looks to the future with optimism: “This season we’ve managed to stay in the First Division, which is the main objective, and then qualify for Europe. We will have a better team than this season, but always looking for economic balance”.
