The Catalonian defender wants “to be ambitious” in the final stretch of the season
Villarreal CF’s Catalonian defender, Víctor Ruiz, is ambitious ahead of this season’s final LaLiga Santander matches. The Submarine is currently in fifth place in the table, but Víctor Ruiz and his teammates aspire to finish fourth. “We’re going to fight until the last minute. I think we have to be ambitious and aim to go as high as we can”, the Yellows number 6 commented.
Víctor Ruiz has become a key figure in Fran Escribá’s back line. The Catalonian centre back is the third footballer to have played the most minutes for Villarreal this season (2,894), with only Bruno Soriano (3,129) and Manu Trigueros (2,984) having played more. His performances, as well as those of his Submarine teammates, have been fundamental in making Villarreal the team to have conceded the fewest goals in the LaLiga Santander (19) so far this season. The Yellows have kept a clean sheet on 15 occasions when taking into account all competitions.
With regard to this Friday’s match against Las Palmas, Víctor Ruiz said: “It will be a tough match. We know that they’re a team that likes to have possession of the ball, they have tricky players and, although it will be difficult, I think the key for us will be to keep possession of the ball and make them feel uncomfortable so we can come away with a good result”.
