The Villarreal CF Manager, Fran Escribá, was satisfied with his side’s display against Espanyol
The Villarreal CF Manager, Fran Escribá, highlighted just how solid his team were against a difficult rival like Espanyol at the Estadio de la Cerámica. For the boss, this was the key to their convincing victory (2-0): “We were so solid it made the match comfortable for us. It felt like one of the most comfortable games we’ve played all season. Espanyol came here with the aim to catch us out with the counterattack, but I don’t think they caused us much danger”.
With regard to the fight for European spots, Escribá insisted that the team must focus on picking up points and continue with the same winning dynamic: “We have to keep winning convincingly. We don’t want to fall too far behind those above us and we want to keep distancing ourselves from those below. I don’t want to think that we have a cushion, but the team is on the right track”.
In explanation of Roberto Soldado’s substitution for Jonathan dos Santos, the Manager assured that it was a move made for the team to be in possession more: “We wanted to have a bit more control. Putting Jonathan on was going to help us attack more because we would get forward more and have the ball more. Then when we had the ball more we would be closer to making it 2-0 rather than it becoming 1-1. Soldado was tired. We’re going to get him back properly bit by bit”.
