The Reserves continue their unbeaten streak after beating Barcelona B with goals by Pau and Martínez
A shock for the leaders. The Villarreal B team put in a great performance and took away the three points against the Barcelona B team at the Mini Estadi. All the players shined, from the defence through to the attack. Goals by Pau and Carlos Martínez were the reward for the valiant effort by Paco López’s men.
Neither team dominated in the first half, with possession going back and forth. Pau Francisco Torres, who made his debut with the First Team against Toledo in the Copa del Rey, scored the first goal of the match. The Villarreal centre back headed home from a great ball into the box by Leo Suárez in the 14th minute. However, Barcelona almost evened things up as Aleña went through one on one with Cantero, but he could not beat the Villarrela goalkeeper, who had a flawless game.
In the second half, the Yellows were well organized at the back and looked dangerous on the counterattack. When it seemed that the game was going to end in victor for Villarreal B, after Pau’s early goal, Carlos Martínez sentenced the match in the 85th minute from the penalty spot. Lazo was the player to be taken down in the box by Moisés.
The Yellows had done what they needed to do, but it was a nerve-wracking finish after the dubious sending off of Juan ‘Ibiza’ for a second yellow card in the 88th minute. The Reserves next match is against Sabadell on Sunday 29th January at 7pm CET (live on Esport3).
