The Yellows combined U23 squad beat Sparta Prague (2-1)
The Yellows combined U23s went out of the ‘Premier League International Cup‘ with an exciting win against Sparta Prague (2-1). Paco López’s side did not have the option to qualify for the next round of the tournament after previous losses to Manchester United (1-0) and Middlesbrough (1-0) in the Group stage.
Villarreal U23s’ goals in this last match of the Group stage were scored by Franco Acosta and Aitor Cantalapiedra, the latter in the final minutes. It must also be mentioned that the Yellows’ goalkeeper, Joan Femenías, saved a penalty, that was the last kick of the game, to stop the Czechs from equalizing.
The Yellows results in Group are the following:
- Tuesday 13th September: Manchester United-Villarreal B (1-0).
- Tuesday 11th October: Middlesbrough-Villarreal B (1-0).
- Tuesday 13th December: Villarreal B-Sparta de Praga (2-1).
