Villarreal B Manager, Paco López, alanyzes the league opener this Sunday in Cornellà
Vilarreal B team Manager, Paco López, emphasized the importance of hard work and strength of his team throughout the season, as he spoke ahead of the Segunda División B (Second B Division) opener to be played next Sunday against UE Cornellà (8pm CET, Nou Municipal de Cornellà stadium). “The team has changed with repect to last season. Our best players have gone on to teams in higher leagues or the Villarreal First Team, that’s what it’s all about here, developing players and watching them move up. This year’s team is younger, but there are also some more experienced players. There are many new faces that have come up from the Villarreal C team and players that didn’t have a main role last season but will have more of one this season. We have to establish the same work ethic that we had last year. The players shouldn’t be thinking about being individuals, they have to work for the team, everyone together, as we always have done”.
The team has changed with respect to last season, but our aim and how we approach every match remain the same for Villarreal B. “Our aim is to compete week in week out, forming competitive players. We will put our real objectives in place in March, before that it’s difficult really. As always we are optimistic and we are not going to give up anything. We made last season very enjoyable for the fans and we want to do the same this year, but to do that we have to play good football, be a compact side and the results will come”.
On the other hand, although López knows it will be difficult to equal last season’s dazzling start, the Manager was optimistic. “To start the season as we did last year will be difficult, we will try to find the team that looks the best, but we want to play good football and be a fearless side”.
Fort the clash against UE Cornellà, Paco López is not sure about the availability of Cantalapiedra, Larrea and Mario González, who have all been called up to the First Team, while Franco Acosta is out injured and Leo Suárez misses the match due to a ban.
