The Universitat Jaume I Dean, Vicent Climent, received the 31 students of the university’s Elite Athletes Programme and the participants of the Spanish University Championships.
Villarreal CF Vice President, José Manuel Llaneza, congratulated the university’s athletes on their successes and announced that the Yellows will increase the amount of money given for scholarships by 5,000 Euros, taking the total up to 25,000 Euros for this year. In addition to the 25,000 Euros for scholarships, Villarreal CF will also provide 10,000 Euros for formation. In total, Villarreal CF will allocate 35,000 Euros to ‘Cátedra Endavant Villarreal CF del Deporte’. “Villarreal CF will continue to get behind these young athletes from the province and because of this the collaboration with the university is crucial, as it is one of the province’s major institutions and therefore, among other aspects, we are working to increase the amount of scholarships available” José Manuel Llaneza commented.
The Elite Athletes Programme was launched in 1999 to help elite student athletes combine their academic and sporting pursuits, so they can continue both studying and training on a daily basis. The programme has benefited a total of 359 Universitat Jaume I students. This year, the Elite Athletes Program is formed of 32 athletes, 20 women and 12 men, in 12 different sports. On the other hand, this year 34 students have represented the UJI in the Spanish University Championships in 10 sports, achieving a total of 9 medals.
On his behalf, the UJI Dean, Vicent Climent, congratulated the athletes for their commitment to this program and their participation in the national and international university sport championships: “You have all represented the Universitat Jaume I and demonstrated your effort and courage by competing at the highest level in your respective sports while being formed academically at the university.”
