The club will auction the football table from the Bayer 04 Leverkusen match for ‘Conquistando Escalones’
Villarreal CF have decided to auction the commemorative football table, from the UEFA Europa League Quarter-final match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, to benefit the Conquistando Escalones Association.
The German club have a tradition of giving a commemorative football table to the other team for every European match played at the BayArena, which both teams sign before the match. On this occasion, Bayer 04 Leverkusen gifted the table to Villarreal CF and the club has decided to give it a charitable purpose, auctioning it on behalf of the Conquistando Escalones Association.
Therefore, Villarreal CF will put a ballot box in the VIP Stand of El Madrigal stadium for each of the Submarine’s remaining three home games, two La Liga matches and one UEFA Europa League match. In this way, fans who wish to can fill out a small form indicating the price they are willing to pay for the football table and their personal information. Once the 2015/16 season has finished, the club will contact the person who made the highest bid.
A medical alliance of four parties
Conquistando Escalones is an Association founded by people affected by Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD-1F). A family from Vila-real has suffered for more than 8 generations from a genetic mutation that makes them have this disease.
In various investigations it has been discovered that the protein affected in the said disease is the same as that which reproduces HIV, with the result being that the mutation of this gene makes them immune to AIDS. For this reason, finding the cure for this muscular disease could also mean the end of HIV.
This research involves four parties represented by José Alcamí (Carlos III Health Institute, Madrid), Juan Vilchez (‘La Fe’ Hospital, Valencia), Rubén Artero (University of Valencia) and Ramón Martí (‘Vall d’Hebron’ Hospital, Barcelona). They all need funds to carry out this investigation and find the cure for Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD-1F) and AIDS.
