The Galician feels at home in the Sumbarine and is hopeful of a fourth place finish
Denis Suárez has become a key player for Marcelino. The Villarreal midfielder has accumulated 1,782 minutes of playing time in LaLiga (1,475), UEFA Europa League (271) and Copa del Rey (36) competitions, during which he has made six assists (four in the league and two in European football). “I’m very much at home here and therefore I’m really happy at Villarreal and to form part of this team. Marcelino told me that I would have options and would be an important player here, and that’s how it has been, which is why I’m happy to be here at Villarreal”, Suárez commented.
The Yellow number 18 believes the fight for fourth place is going to be fierce right up until the end of the season: “I know Sevilla and they’re not going to give up; they fought for fourth place last year and they’ll keep going for it. They have a great squad and despite being in three competitions, I don’t think it will affect them so much. We have eight more points than Sevilla and it is a big advantage, but at the same time they’re a great team and could make a comeback. Looking at the league table Sevilla are our main rivals, as Celta and Athletic are going to Barcelona and Madrid this weekend”.
Villarreal has a difficult run of games ahead for the next few fixtures. “We have some tough away games coming up, against Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla. It’s true that last year we did beat Atlético at the Calderón stadium and it was an even match in Sevilla too, and so we know we can get good results against these teams”.
The Submarine’s next rival will be Málaga, who will visit the Madrigal this Saturday (18:15 CET). “Now the most beautiful phase of the season begins. We play against Málaga, who are on a good run, and after we’ve got a great Europa League, Round of 32 fixture against Napoli. To win at home is key, we feel strong and if we want to secure fourth place we have to go on like this”, concluded Denis Suárez.
