Jonathan dos Santos stresses that the yellows have to be “ambitious” against Athletic
The Villarreal CF Mexican midfielder, Jonathan dos Santos, assured that the Submarine must go to San Mamés with ambition in order to get a positive result in the league match this Saturday (20:30 CET): “It is a great game to play in. We’ll be playing against a tough opponent, but it will be a great game and even more so in a stadium like San Mamés. We’re aware of the difficulty and that we must be strong, but we’re really motivated to do what we need to do. It’s going to be a beautiful game, but very hard too, one of those games in which you have to go all out to get something from it, we know this and we’re going to go for it”.
According to the Yellow number 8 the next Villarreal matches will be very important for the team: “Many tough away games await us, but we’re going to see what we can do and I think we can get points despite the difficulty. It is a hard schedule, but we’ve got the opportunity to compete against solid teams at very difficult stadiums”.
When talking about Saturday’s rival, Jonathan dos Santos recognises the ‘leones’ potential: “They’re a direct team. We have a ten point advantage over them, but we know despite this that it’s going to be a really tough game and we know too that they are a team that continues aspiring for the same as us. It’s a hard ground to play at because of their players and their high pressure style. It’s not easy at all. I think this match has come at a good time as we know we can play well and get something positive out of it”.
Villarreal is secure in their Champions League spot, but Jonathan prefers to keep his feet on the ground: “We’re not thinking about the point difference, we’re just going game by game and seeing how things go. I believe we should look more at those above us than those below us though. We’re three and four points from those above us, so if we want to do great things we must be ambitious and keep looking up”.
