Pacheta has highlighted the great challenge of beating the ” most in-form team in LALIGA” (Wednesday, 7pm CEST)

Villarreal head coach, José Rojo ‘Pacheta’, appeared before the media this Tuesday to analyse the match against Girona FC, which corresponds to Matchday 7 of the 2023/24 LALIGA season, and will be played at the Estadio de la Cerámica this Wednesday at 7pm CEST.

The coach highlighted the important challenge facing the Submarine against the Catalan side: “They’re the most in-form team in LALIGA. We have to be solid and be aware of their speed on the outside and dynamism on the inside. We can beat Girona, who still don’t know what it’s like to lose. It’s a big challenge and we’ll take it. We’re up against a lively team, with a great head coach who we know a lot. It’s a team with good association, continuity, transitions and they have players who are having a sweet moment like Savio or Tsygankov.”

As for the game plan, Pacheta predicted a match with a lot of pace at La Cerámica: “I’d like to improve on what we did in Vallecas, which serves as a reference to see what we do well and what we do badly. I expect a very dynamic game with Girona trying to run. A clash with a lot of pace, with speed in the circulation of the ball….. We have mechanisms to stop that and hurt them. I hope that we control the game like that and that it gives us the confidence to be able to create danger for them.”

Likewise, the head coach is satisfied with the growth of the team and appreciates the value of the draw achieved in Vallecas, which boosts confidence: “Teams are built through victories. We didn’t win in Vallecas, but I have the feeling that it’s a point that we all value. Rayo came at us. We were calm and we had the ball. We had a lot of possession. That gives us confidence and chances. In Vallecas we saw more chances to score. That’s what we are looking for. We are also looking to control the game. We have to be solid. We have to improve details. There are always mistakes that need to be corrected. We also need to give continuity to what we do well”.

For Pacheta, the way to improve is through solidity, with and without the ball: “We are looking to be solid in a broad sense of the word. We are working on it. Here we spend more time with the ball than without, but we are gaining confidence because in Vallecas we were also solid without the ball. We want to dominate with the ball and make sure we don’t create chances without the ball.”
