The Villarreal head coach praised the focus shown by his players against Mallorca
Villarreal CF heac coach Quique Setién stressed the importance of not getting desperate against RCD Mallorca to secure their first win of the season thanks to a Gerard Moreno goal (0-1). “The plan was to play this match intelligently. We didn’t compromise too much on the ball because Mallorca will get a goal out of nothing. We were very intelligent. We managed to keep a clean sheet and not get any shots on goal. In the second half they changed the pattern, but we adjusted and controlled the game. We scored an important goal that gave us the win in the end,” he said.
The Yellows head coach also praised the performance of the debutants: “I am very happy with the three players who made their debuts today. Gabbia has been very solid, sober and accurate on the ball. Ben had a lot of personality, he made a lot of clearances and supported his team-mates. Ilias joined the team and the 15 minutes he played he did very well. The three of them are going to bring us a lot of things.”
However, Setién assures that there is still a lot of work to be done to continue improving: “We still have a lot of things to do. It’s not easy to beat an opponent with so many people in defence. We have to have a lot of inspiration and manage the ball very quickly.”
