Yellows draw against Albacete BP to stay alive in the fight for survival

Villarreal B earned a point from Albacete BP’s visit to the Estadio de la Cerámica. Ontiveros scored twice to earn the Mini Submarine a draw that keeps them in with a mathematical chance of staying in the second division.

The Yellow Submarine started the game well. Better than their opponents, Albacete BP, who needed a point to secure their mathematical survival. Miguel Álvarez’s men looked for the first goal from the start, with Ontiveros very active and starring in the first two big chances of the game. Firstly, the player from Málaga almost surprised Vaclik with a cross that crashed against the post and, secondly, with a shot from the edge of the area after a good steal by Requena that forced the Czech goalkeeper to do his utmost.

Albacete BP reacted as the minutes passed and began to approach Iker Álvarez’s goal with some danger from the 15th minute onwards, but the Andorran goalkeeper responded to prevent the visitors’ goal.

In the 23rd minute, Jorge Pascual fell inside the area after being tripped by an Albacete defender and González Esteban, the referee, awarded the penalty. Ontiveros made no mistake and put the Yellows ahead on the scoreboard.

However, almost immediately Albacete BP came back with a goal from Glauder from a set piece and a goal from Juanma after a team move to put the Mini Submarine behind.

Villarreal B could have equalised again before the break through Dani Tasende, who hit the post from a set piece. However, 1-2 would be the final score at the end of the first half.

The second half started in the best possible way for the Mini Submarine. Once again González Esteban awarded a penalty for a handball by an Albacete defender on a cross from Rodri Alonso. Ontiveros, again, did not miss the penalty and tied the match.

In the 80th minute, Requena brought down a visiting attacker and the referee pointed to the spot. However, Iker Álvarez made a huge save to deny Quiles and keep the Mini Submarine alive with ten minutes to go.

Both teams had their chances in the final minutes, but in the end it was a 2-2 draw that proved to be the final result of the game.

Villarreal B stay alive in the difficult fight for survival after the draw against Albacete BP. Miguel Álvarez’s side will travel to Valladolid to face Real Valladolid, who are in the fight for direct promotion, on Sunday 26th May at 6:30pm CEST.
