Villarreal Women beat Valencia CF in the regional derby, their third consecutive win

Villarreal Women, who came into the regional derby against Valencia CF in good form, were aware of the difficulty of the game. They gave absolutely everything they had on the pitch, securing their third consecutive win thanks to a Kayla McKenna header.

The early stages of the match showed a little uncertainty from both sides, although, as the minutes went by, the Yellows began to dominate, both in terms of sensations and in terms of chances created. In fact, in the 13th minute, Maria Llompart took a powerful free kick, but her shot was saved by the Valencia goalkeeper. However, on the next occasion, Sara Monforte’s side made no mistake. Nerea Pérez crossed a magnificent ball that Kayla McKenna made good use of. The Yellows’ assasin in front of goal powered the ball into the net with a great header (0-1).

In the second half, Carmen Carbonell was the outstanding player. Villarreal Women were forced to make a great effort defensively, but they were never under real threat. The clearest chance for the home side was a counter attack by Anita Marcos, who ended up shooting the ball wide.

With this win, Villarreal Women now have 18 points and move away from the relegation zone. Their next match will be on Saturday 17th February, at 6:30pm CET, against Real Sociedad at the Mini Estadi.
