Villarreal shine against Getafe with an excellent team performance

What a win (1-3)! Villarreal CF impressed and showed their winning mettle at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, where they put on a real footballing show, defeating Getafe, who were beating in every facet of the game. Unai Emery’s side are looking better every game and now have their first away win in LaLiga. It is also their fourth victory in a row in all competitions, in  LaLiga and the Europa League.

The Yellows’ head coach lined up with a recognisable starting XI at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. Eleven Spaniards and six players formed at the Yellows Academy lined up against Getafe CF: S. Asenjo; Mario Gaspar, R. Albiol, Pau Torres, A. Pedraza; Iborra, Parejo, M. Trigueros, Moi Gómez; Gerard and Paco Alcácer.

The opening moments of the match were crazy. After ten minutes of complete dominance by the away side, Villarreal opened the scoring with a fantastic goal. Dani Parejo played a fantastic long ball for Mario, whose headed touch set up Alcácer who controlled with his chest before firing past David Soria.

Getafe’s response came soon after. Just five minutes later, Mauro Arambarri fired off a powerful long-range effort which ended up in the top corner of Sergio Asenjo’s goal. The goalkeeper could do nothing about it.

Despite Getafe’s equaliser, Villarreal, as they did against Qarabag, had the perfect response. In the next piece of play after the home team’s goal, the Submarine went ahead once more through Trigueros, who send a fantastic Moi Gómez assist into the back of the next, after a lovely piece of play from the Yellows No.23 with Alcácer.

With the scoreboard at 1-2, Villarreal knew how to control their advantage through possession well. Alcácer could have increased the lead with a shot from out wide that Soria saved just before half-time.

The second half saw Villarreal need to be even more competitive. After a good start from Getafe, Villarreal knew how to repel the home side’s attacks and make the most of their chances to score their third goal. With an unstoppable right-footed stop, Gerard beat Soria, after a subtle assist from Alcácer in the box.

In the closing moments, Emery’s side knew how to defend and stop the home side’s danger. In the 82nd minute, the referee ruled out what would have been the fourth goal of the afternoon for the Yellows. It wasn’t needed. Villarreal had control of the win. It was a game that showed off the Yellows’ talent and competitive side, with an important and hard-fought win in the visit to Getafe.
