Marcelino was frustrated with the draw and was critical of his team’s performance
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media to analyse the 0-0 draw against Maccabi Haifa. The Asturian coach was unhappy with the result and his team’s performance: “I’m not satisfied with what we did today. We were far from our best and when that happens it’s difficult to win.”
Likewise, the Yellows’ head coach lamented the lack of success in the attacking phase: “We should have scored a goal. Up front we didn’t have our best day. We started well, but we cooled down as the minutes went by. We should have done more today, but we didn’t have continuity. We need to be more demanding, intense and aggressive. We need to be able to subdue our opponents more. We played a lot in their half, but we lacked fluency and determination.”
Finally, Marcelino regretted not having achieved a win that would have been enough for a draw in France to go straight through to the last 16: “It was a great opportunity and we didn’t take it. It was important. The only positive thing is that they didn’t create much for us and we kept a clean sheet. But I’m not happy with the game or the result.”
