Miguel Álvarez underlines the team’s ambition and focus to be at the top of the table
Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez spoke to the media in the build-up to the match against Atlético Baleares at the Mini Estadi (Sunday, 12pm CEST). Here are the key points he had to make:
Ambition in the closing stages
“There are some matches which are finals. Every game that we’re playing is attractive. This week, we face Atlético Baleares, and then the week after Real Madrid Castilla. They’re teams who have something to play for and they’re in good form. All of the coaching staff are happy for the season we’ve had. We didn’t think we would be where we are in such a tough division. The boys have exceeded our expectations. There have been moments when we’ve had players out, and you could tell, but we’re satisfied and we want to make this a good year. We’re focused on trying to get promotion. We want to get as far as possible.”
A fully fit squad
“Everyone in the team is fit. We’re going into the closing stages with everyone in good form. We’re always looking at what’s happening with the first team, in case a player could get called up, but otherwise, everyone is available.”
The opposition
“We have an advantage, but you can’t relax. This week, we face Atlético Baleares, who, for me, have the best squad in the league. They had a great run in the Copa del Rey and that affected them in the league. They’re still got a lot to play for in a difficult division.”
A great season for the club
“Since I joined Villarreal, I’ve enjoyed every minute, I’m having a great time. I’m where I always dreamed of being, which is coaching youngsters. I think it’s where I feel most comfortable. What’s more, my coaching staff help me a lot. The club has continued growing, and we can’t wait for Monday. Here, we’re all Villarreal fans and nothing else. Getting young people to feel like that is great, and we need to enjoy it. It’s a dream that never ends.”
