Sheila’s brace and goals from Estefa and Belén are enough to get a vital win away from home
Villarreal Women knew today was an important game at the Estadio Matapiñonera and they stepped up to the occasion, beating Madrid CFF 2-4. The Yellows, with Joan Goterris acting as head coach today, didn’t give their opposition any chance, and from the first minute looked like they would win the game against a non-stop Madrid side. After an exception first half, they dug in like warriors in the second.
The first goal came in the seventh minute through Estefa Lima, who reacted first after a Paola Ulloa punched it out to open the scoring. Only five minutes later, Sheila Guijarro’s dipping rocket from the edge of the box saw the Yellows get their second and double their lead on the scoreboard. It was a piece of art that opposition goalkeeper Paola was unable to stop.
With the score at 0-2, Elena de Toro made two fantastic saves to deny Nunes and then Madsen. Belén Martínez made it 3-0 in San Sebastián de los Reyes, diverting Tere Morató’s cross in. The Yellows went into half-time with a comfortable lead.
After the break, Villarreal warned Madrid CFF of what they were capable of once more, with a Cienfu effort going just off target. Before long, Sheila got her second to extend the lead, getting on the end of a rebound after Paola saved Belén’s long-range effort. However, the side from the Spanish capital didn’t give up and cut the lead, first from Itzi, and then from Nunes.
The Yellows came away with another win, and continue in their fight to stay in the Primera Iberdrola.
