Villarreal B have lost their final game of the stadium. The Mini Submarine lost to Barcelona B in a goal fest (3-4), signing off a campaign where they managed to earn promotion to the newly-formed Primera RFEF.
The Catalan side were trying to finish this stage in second, while the Yellows wanted to win to sign off the season in style. The away side came out on top.
The match was a consistent exchange of blows. Barcelona B went ahead from the penalty spot, after a mistake while playing out of the back, which led to Iker Alvárez commiting a foul in the box. Matheus stepped up to score (0-1, m.20).
The goal hurt Villarreal B. Matheus made it 0-2 only eight minutes later. It was 0-3 before half-time after a long-range Oriol Busquets effort.
In the second half, Villarreal B wanted to show what they were made of and competed well. Alex Millán made it 1-3 after turning in the box and launching a powerful right-footed effort that went in the top corner (m.51).
The Mini Submarine were back in the match, but Barça B struck again. This time it was Rey Manaj who fired past Álvares (m.67).
Despite the result, Villarreal B did not give up and score two more goals. First of all, Balde scored an own goal, before Jack Harper scored a left-footed effort to make it 3-4 and make the last moments of the match exciting.
Now, Villarreal B have no more games left, but they will continue training until the end of the month at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva).
