Trigueros: “The draw takes us closer to qualifying”

The Villarreal centre midfielder confirmed the Yellows will keep fighting to guarantee their place in the Round of 32

Villarreal midfielder Manu Trigueros appeared in front of the media to analyse the point picked up against Maccabi Tel Aviv (1-1) on Matchday 4 in Group I of the UEFA Europa League: “In the first half we played well. We didn’t give Maccabi any options. In the second half, the game evened up. We let in a goal in the first minute. They got more confident and made things harder for us. From there, we managed to pick up a point. We knew it was going to be a tough game. The draw takes us closer to qualifying.”

Trigueros stressed that his side will keep fighting until they reach the Round of 32: “Next week we’re going to Turkey. It will be another very tough game because they are also playing to get through to the next round. We will go their with full belief that we can qualify.”

With sights set on the next league match against Real Sociedad (Sunday, 9pm CET), Trigueros said it will be tough game but a very exciting one for fans: “We’re both teams that try to play good football. It will be an attractive game, but very difficult. They are in great form and so are we. We want to come away with the three points to close the gap on them in the table.”

For Trigueros, the key to Sunday’s game will be keeping possession of the ball: “Both of us want to have the ball at our feet. The team that manages to dominate possession will have more options to win the game. When they have the ball, we have to be capable of winning it back quickly and try to surprise them on the counterattack.”

Lastly, the Yellows centre midfielder highlighted that, despite coming away with good results from the Reale Arena in recent seasons, every game is different: “Each season is a different world. In the last few years we have come away with some great results. Let’s see if we can keep that going. It’s been a while since we haven’t lost there and we want to continue that run against Real Sociedad.”
