The midfielder has already equalled his best-ever goalscoring season
Manu Trigueros appeared in front of the media at the training ground today. The midfielder, who against RCD Mallorca equalled his best ever goalscoring season, with seven goals, was asked about his form in front of goal. “You have to value it positively. It seems easy, but it is anything but easy. I’m focused on the work I’m doing hear. I don’t take penalties or free-kicks. I’ve always considered myself a midfielder who gets into the box, someone who likes to boe there if there’s a ball coming in from the wing. It’s one of my talents,” replied Trigueros.
The Yellows’ footballer is very happy with his goalscoring form: “As my father used to say, goals are like loves. But above everything else, I’m very happy to be helping the team, because if you score and your side lose, you’re not happy.” He added: “I’m going to try and continue to score to help the time. I like playing in the final third, being an attacking midfielder, or cutting inside after playing wide. Playing as a No.9 is harder, with your back to goal, it’s not my position, but I can do it.”
The versatile player spoke about the next league tie, which will be against Real Betis in Seville. “For us, the match against Betis is a key game. They’re a direct opponent, who are in good form, and we could cut their lead over us. We’ve always said to ourselves that by winning three or four games, we would get into the fight for Europe. However, it is true that looking at the matches where we have dropped points, we could have had ten more points. We’re still behind, but we’re on the right path to fight for those European spots,” underlined the midfielder, who added: “They have very good players, they work very well defensively, they concede few goals and they have a lot of talented players on the pitch. However, they have to compete in the Copa del Rey and we don’t, although players of that level are used to playing on Wednesdays and Sundays.”
Trigueros also spoke about the upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Juventus, while he was aware that there are other matches to focus on first: “I’m not thinking about the Juve match now. Time goes quickly and when we’re on that week, the gaffer will show us the videos and we will work hard to prepare for the match. For the No.14: “In LaLiga, we’re a team designed to fight for the European spots, and in the Champions League, we’re excited and we are going to make it hard for Juventus.”
