Villarreal will be looking for a win against the Andalusian side to continue their good run

Villarreal CF take on Granada CF this Sunday at 2pm CET at the Estadio de la Cerámica in the duel corresponding to Matchday 27 of the 2023/24 LALIGA EA SPORTS season, which will be the first of what promises to be an exciting month of March for the Yellows due to the important commitments that Marcelino’s team have in both LALIGA and in the UEFA Europa League.

The Submarine welcome the Andalusian side in their best form of the season after six consecutive matches without defeat, including four draws, against Mallorca (1-1), Cádiz (0-0), Deportivo Alavés (1-1) and Getafe (1-1), and two spectacular victories, against FC Barcelona at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium (3-5) and Real Sociedad last time out at the Reale Arena (1-3).

And against Granada, another win would not only serve to maintain the positive dynamic of the last month, but also to finally get the first victory of the year at the Estadio de la Cerámica. This is something Marcelino’s men have yet to do, the last win coming on 20th December against RC Celta (3-2).

Granada CF, with 14 points from 25 games – they still have to play the postponed last game against Valencia – need to react now if they want to stay in the LALIGA for another year, with RC Celta the team currently outside of the relegation zone with 21 points.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that Granada have not been an easy opponent at home for Villarreal in recent seasons. Although the head-to-head record is favourable to the Yellows side with ten wins, five draws and two defeats, the Submarine haven’t beaten the them in LALIGA since the 2016/17 season, when goals from Bruno Soriano and Álvaro González gave them a 2-0 win. After that, a 4-4 draw in the 2019/20 campaign, a 2-2 draw in 2020/21 and a 0-0 draw in 2021/22 have been the results of the matches held over the last few years at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Officials

The referee for the match will be Juan Luis Pulido Santana, with Valentino Pizarro Gómez on VAR.
