The governing body of Spanish football recognised the Yellows after the UEFA Europa League title

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (Real Federación de Fútbol Español – RFEF) recognised Villarreal CF after their historic season, where they won the UEFA Europa League for the first time, after beating Manchester United on 26th May in the Polish city of Gdansk.

During the general assembly, which took place on Tuesday 8th June at Las Rozas, the RFEF president Luis Rubiales gave the distinction award to Villarreal CF president Fernando Roig, and the club’s CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles.

After receiving the honour, the Yellows’ president underlined his gratitude and highlighted the club’s historical achievement: “Being champions is very difficult. This is the culmination of our objectives. The mayor of Vila-real and the people living there are very proud. We’re the smallest town to have become European champions and for us, that’s something very special.”
