Needing character and conviction to compete with La Nucía

Miguel Álvarez has underlined the importance of being clinical against tough opposition like La Nucía (Saturday, 6pm CET)

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared remotely before the media to offer his thoughts ahead of the B team’s upcoming match against CF La Nucía (Saturday 6pm CET). The Yellows’ coach emphasised the high level of the opponents from Alicante: “La Nucía are a very good team, very well drilled, and who have a very experienced coach. They’re a team that look after the ball well and have very good players, and they’ve gone from strength to strength in recent weeks.”

He also spoke of his satisfaction with the work of his own team, but pointed to the importance of being more decisive in important moments: “Right now, we could be more efficient in the match-defining moments. In terms of our defensive work, we have improved a lot and we concede few goalscoring opportunities, but I think we can be more efficient in front of goal. We have to keep on improving”.

Lastly, for the coach, one of the key aspects will be to continue with the game plan that the B team have at the Mini Estadi: “Playing at home gives us that confidence boost that we need to play our own game. We’re searching for more fluidity and consistency in our approach than we have away from home, where it’s more difficult”.
