Miguel Álvarez’s men were unable to keep their lead and lost at Linarejos

Villarreal B lost 2-1 against Linares Deportivo at Linarejos, in a match where the Mini Submarine were without their two first-choice goalkeepers, Filip Jorgensen and Iker Álvarez, due to international duty. Ramón Bueno also started a match for the first time in 22 months, after recovering from his injury. The Yellows went ahead with a goal from Adrián de la Fuente, but the home side turned things around.

Linares started the match at a frenetic tempo, trying to go ahead from the first minute, but Villarreal B managed to withstand the early onslaught from the Andalusian side, stopping them going ahead on the scoreboard. With ten minutes gone, Dela sent the ball into the back of the net, with a powerful header from a corner, putting the groguets ahead.

After the goal, Miguel Álvarez’s side took possession of the ball and started to create danger in the opposition box. Antonio Pacheco could have scored a second, Ahn was looking dangerous on the wing, and Dani Tasende was regularly joining the attack. Juan Carlos Arana’s powerful shot could also have extended the Yellows’ lead, but the Linares goalkeeper Ernestas made a great save.

In the second half, the Mini Submarine weren’t happy to sit back on their lead, and looked for the second goal. Ahn and Migue Leal tried their luck from long range. However, it was Linares who levelled the tie, thanks to a Josema header, which, just like the Yellows’ goal, was from a corner, before, turning the tie around completely, thanks to a Perejón goal.

Álex Forés, who came off the bench, was able to beat Ernestas, reacting fasted to a rebound, but he was judged to be offside and the goal was disallowed. Aitor Gelardo’s powerful volley flew just past the post of the Lithuanian goalkeeper. Villarreal B suffered their third league defeat of the season, but stay top of Primera RFEF Group 2.
