Villarreal Women beat Alavés with goals from Tere Morató (2) and Sheila Guijarro, to get their second win in a row
Villarreal Women started 2022 in the best way possible. The Yellows got their second win in a row by beating Deportivo Alavés 3-1. The home side’s goals came from Tere Morató (2) and Sheila Guijarró (from the penalty spot). Lice scored for the Basque team.
The opener came from the penalty spot. Tere was brought down clearly in the box and Sheila stepped up to trick the Alavés goalkeeper (m.14).
The Basque outfit, one of the surprises of the season, pushed forward looking for the equaliser. Their attacks were neutralised well by the Yellows defence.
In the second half, Villarreal Women were able to increase their lead. Maria Cienfuegos played a great ball to Tere, who finished showing her quality to make it 2-0 (m.56).
The match seemed all under control, but that wasn’t the case. Alavés cut the lead through Lice, which promised to make it a tense end to the game (2-1, m.69)
However, the game was killed off by Tere. The Andorran striker got the ball on the edge of the box and fired a powerful right-footed effort past Cristina Cornejo (3-1, m.79).
Next up for Villarreal Women is a match against Atlético de Madrid. Another big challenge.
