President Fernando Roig and ladies’ first-team player Aixa Salvador went to the official presentation

The Trinidad Alfonso Foundation this morning presented the seventh edition of the FER (Foment d’Esportistes amb Reptes – Formation of Sportspeople with Challenges), an initiative which gives economic help and visibility to athletes from the Comunidad Valenciana.

The event was attended by Villarreal president Fernando Roig, as well as ladies first-team player Aixa Salvador, as part of Project FER 2019. It is worth noting that various Project FER 2019 athletes are also part of Endavant Esports.

The Project FER, headed by Juan Roig through the Alfonso Trinidad Foundation, with an investment of around a million Euros, has a total of 126 recipients, distributed in 32 different sporting events. The three categories formed at the start of the project: Elite, Promises and Nursery, are still how the recipients are divided. The 30 athletes in the Elite category, all of them at a high international level, will receive €18,000; the 36 in Promises, a level that covers leading national athletes who have started to compete on the international stage, will receive €7,500, while the Nursery category, young talents who have had success at youth level, will get €3,000 (those who have had success nationally and internationally), or €2,000, for those who have only had success on one of the national or international stages.

Furthermore, like last year, the Project FER 2019 also maintains its FER Entrenadores, support for some of the best coaches in the Comunidad Valenciana. According to the number of athletes they train and the level they are at, the donations for the trainers are between €4,000 and €7,500. In this second year of this line of the project, there are 13 beneficiaries, three more than in 2018.

The event saw a number of personalities from Valencian and Spanish sport, including Jordi Bertomeu (executive director of basketball’s Euroliga); Spanish federation presidents such as Jesús Carballo (gymnastics), Raúl Chapado (athletics) and Francisco Blázquez (handball); Quico Catalán (Levante UD president) and Valencia Basket Club representatives Paco Raga and Vicente Solá.

During the ceremony, Uniesport Awards were given to the sportspeople with best academic grades in the seven universities in the Comunidad Valenciana. The giving of these prizes was the responsibility of Fernando Roig and Trini Roig.
