Villarreal Women achieve a historical promotion to the top flight after beating Cáceres

A historic day. Villarreal Women have been promoted to Primera División thanks to their win over CFF Cáceres on Pitch 5 at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva) (4-0).

The Yellows, led by head coach Sara Monforte, have earned promotion with three games still to play in the second and definitive stage of the Southern Group Segunda División. Impressive.

Villarreal Women’s season is one for the record books. The team finished the first stage of the season top of Southern Group B, with 41 points from 16 games, made up of 13 wins, two draws and just one defeat. They were the team to score the most goals (38) and concede the fewest (11).

This saw them move into the second stage with a better coefficient than their opponents. From the start of the second stage they were leaders, and they showed why. In the first match they impressively beat Cáceres away (0-5), before drawing with Granadilla Tenerife B (0-0), beating Pozoalbense (0-2), drawing against Granada (2-2) and finally beating Cáceres again (4-0), this time at home.

Every single player in the squad performed to a high level in a historic season, but a special mention needs to go to Salma Paralluelo. The forward picked up a serious knee injury in the draw with Granada. Her 15 goals throughout the season show just how important she is in the squad. In fact, her team-mates paid tribute to her great season before the game against Cáceres.

Next season, Villarreal will be in the top flight of women’s football alongside the likes of FC Barcelnoa, Real Madrid, Atlético, Athletic Club…

Campeonas, campeonas, oé oé oé! Primera División, here we come!
