Villarreal Women were unable to overcome two early goals from the home side

Villarreal Women, who had gone three consecutive games without defeat, ended 2023 at a difficult Madrid CFF ground, a team fighting for second place, where they were unable to overcome the two early goals scored by the home side Racheal Kundananji and Cris Librán in the first 25 minutes of the game.

In the first half, Madrid CFF threatened Villarreal goalkeeper Carmen Carbonell from very early on. In fact, in the 13th minute, Young Ju had a great shot that was deflected wide at the final whistle. However, a few minutes later, Racheal Kundananji made no mistake. She took advantage of a rebound to score the first (1-0). Just five minutes later, it was Cris Librán who extended the lead (2-0). From this moment on, Sara Monforte’s team reorganised themselves, managing to keep more of the ball and creating more danger in attack. The Yellows had up to three chances before the break, but were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

After the break, Villarreal Women were better positioned on the pitch, keeping more of the ball and creating dangerous attacking moves. In fact, Claudia Iglesias had a good chance, but the ball went wide of the goal. A few minutes later, Kayla McKenna had a header with no reward. In defence, Carbonell made a spectacular save from a one-on-one from Racheal Kundananji in the 66th minute of the game.

Villarreal Women’s next game is on Saturday 6th January at 8:30pm against Levante UD at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
