Villarreal Women head coach, Sara Monforte, appeared before the media at the press conference prior to the vital last duel for survival against Athletic Club, corresponding to Gameweek 30 of the 2022/23 Finetwork Liga F season. The match will take place on Saturday 20th May, from 12pm CEST, in Lezama (Bilbao). These is what she had to say:
The opposition: Athletic Club
“From Athletic Club I would highlight Iraia, who we know very well. She is a head coach with a lot of training and it is a club with a great youth academy. They are at their best right now. They don’t have anything to play for in the league table, but it won’t be easy. We’re expecting a great opponent who will want to win, although they’ll probably include rotations.”
Focusing is key
“Focus is vital. It’s not over until the final whistle. We have to be very serious. This club deserves to be in the first division because of its facilities and work.”
A life or death match
“You can’t go for a draw. We have to go and win. It’s up to us. There is no other option and the girls know that. Just like against Atlético de Madrid, who we went to win, in Lezama too.”
