Miguel Álvarez: “We’ve got everyone back for Albacete”

Villarreal B want to keep on getting points this Friday at Carlos Belmonte

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared at the pre-match press conference ahead of the match against Albacete BP, opponents who are only a point above the Mini Submarine in the standings, at the Estadio Carlos Belmonte. The Mini Submarine coach is confident of getting a positive result after a very short week of work and little time to recover from the win against Eibar.

A short week of work

“Trying to manage the workloads well. As we are used to it, it’s nothing new. Taking more care of the players, because the important thing is the match, and activating the last few days. Last week was very long and allowed us to work a lot more; this week, which has been shorter, we haven’t been able to work on as many things, but we have focused on what was most important.”

Belief after the win

“They were three golden points. Three points are always important, but to do it against Eibar, those three points give you a lot of peace of mind and a margin for results. It’s a very long category with 72 points left to play for. We don’t have it all wrapped up. We try, both in defeats and victories, the importance of continuing to work on a day-to-day basis.”

Víctor Moreno

“This squad is the youngest in the B team in recent years. There are guys with a lot of projection like Víctor, but also Requena… They have to wait for their moment, work for them and their growth, and wait for their moment because we have to be patient with them. We try not to give anything away and that they are the ones who work well during the week. The fact that they go with the national team also throws them off a bit and they stop participating, but we have high hopes for them. We are committed to their work and growth. There are many kids that we will end up seeing in the first team. We want them to have a culture of hard work and effort.”

Going for Albacete

“We’re facing them in a very good position. Albacete always make things very difficult for us. We know that they’re a team with 21 points, one more than us, but because of their approach and the fact that they play at a very high tempo and intensity, very vertical, they should have more points than they have. They are a team to be taken into account. At home they are very strong and very powerful. They have won 15 of their 21 points at home and they are reinforced there by their fans. This week we’ve been able to work with everyone and we’re going to go with everyone to Albacete.”

The keys to the match

“We have to achieve defensive solidity to be able to do more things from there. Right now we’re scoring more goals from set pieces than dynamically, but they also count. We have to be very strong there, because of their vertical play, their danger in transitions…”
