Miguel Álvarez: “We have to give our best individually”

Villarreal B host SD Eibar on Monday at the Estadio de la Cerámica

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared at the press conference ahead of the game against SD Eibar, which takes place on Monday at 8:30pm at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The Mini Submarine coach knows that this is a good opportunity to get back to winning ways at home.

Here is what he had to say:

The current status of the team

“We are feeling good. We’ve been able to work on some aspects during this long week. The day-to-day work is very good and we have recovered four players who were with the first team. There is more competition and more rhythm.”

The match

“I expect a tough game, as always. There are a lot of strong teams in this division, with very good squads. Eibar are the second team with the most points on the road. They’re in the play-offs with very good statistics. They have tremendous attacking potential. We’ll have to be at our best individually and collectively because it’s a high-level game.”

The keys to the game

“They have players who can score goals, but also provide assists. They link up very well because they’ve been playing together for a long time. They create some very good automatisms. The key will be to be very strong and try to minimise their attacking potential. We can also hurt them, but we have to be very demanding.”

Upcoming fixtures

“We can’t think about the subsequent matches. We’re only focused on the Eibar game. The most important game is always the most imminent.”

Fans

“We need them. We have said it many times. Without the fans it’s a totally different game. In this division you need every possible weapon to be able to compete and a very important weapon is the fans. We need them, without a doubt.”

Being in the bottom half

“We approach it naturally. The work is there. The day to day is what is important and the individual improvement of the players is even more important. Year after year we have achieved the objective and that is the greatest endorsement of our coaching staff. With hard work we are sure they will be on the stage they want to be on. We’re the only reserve team in the category and we have to enjoy the process. The aim is to try to help the players to be better every day. Demanding and natural.”

Players’ growth

“There is continuity in Villarreal’s work in the youth system. The young players have a wonderful stage. The step up to the first team is very small and they compete every week against top level teams. Every game is an apprenticeship for the players. The work must not change.”
