Villarreal B face Cartagena this Sunday at 6:30pm CET

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared before the press ahead of the match against FC Cartagena, corresponding to Gameweek 32 of LaLiga SmartBank, which will take place this Sunday at 6.30pm CET at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

This is what he had to say about the match:

The opposition

“Cartagena are a top team. They had a bad run and got back on track. It’s true that they lost at home against Andorra, but the first chances were theirs. I think they will be fighting until the end. We are happy to be up there. It’s another game where the goal average is important. It’s not decided yet.”

Two games in a row at home

“Every game is an opportunity to compete at a high level. Home advantage gives you a certain advantage as you don’t go away against teams with a large fan base. We have two games to compete and, if we can get good results, we’ll be closer to our objective.”

The importance of defending well

“That’s one of the keys. We have to go out and pay the price for the kind of talent we have, because defending is also talent. We’ve already had two clean sheets in two games. Offensively, we always do things and we dominate a lot of registers. We have to apply ourselves defensively. The lads are doing that. We’re on the right track.”

200 official games in charge of Villarreal B

“That says I’m already too old. I’m going to extend it as long as possible in terms of training, having energy and enthusiasm for my profession. 200 games are a lot and I’m very grateful to Villarreal for thinking of me at the time and to all the boys I’ve had. There has always been a very clear objective, which is to help them to fulfil their dreams and to have a culture of hard work. I am also very grateful to the people on my staff. I came here alone and now I have a family. They are very qualified professionals.”
