The footballer has underlined the growth of the club and the importance of aiming to win every match

Kiko Femenía appeared in front of the media this lunchtime, looking at the work done during the international break and being focused on the upcoming league match against Cádiz on Saturday 1st October at 2pm CEST. Here are the key points from the right-back.

Preparation during the international break

“I arrived a bit unprepared for the season I had, but I quickly adapted to the team and my teammates and the coach helped me a lot. I adapted to the way the club plays. These two weeks have been useful to prepare for the Cádiz game and to get more details of what the coach wants from me and to learn and give the best of myself.”

Attacking projection

“Every player has their own characteristics and maybe, because of mine, it’s a bit more difficult for me to defend. That’s the reality. In attack, the coach gives me the freedom to go forward and it’s easier for me. In defence, my teammates are always talking to me, advising me and supporting me.”

Assessing the opening stages of the season

“I think it’s been very good. We’ve had a lot of away games and it’s difficult to get points away. Cádiz are a complicated opponent with some very interesting players and we’ll have to be at our best to get points there.”

Accumulation of matches

“This month of October is going to be full of games. We all need to be on top of our game when the coach needs us. It’s going to be complicated, but it’s going to be nice. All the players want to play as many games as possible. We hope to respond to the demands of this month.”

Polishing details

“In terms of how we’ve played, I think we’ve given 100% and played very well. We are lacking details, as we did on the Betis and Sevilla days. We’ve also taken advantage of this break to correct the details that made us not win those games and face the next ones with the greatest enthusiasm and focused on not making the same mistakes.”

The demands of winning

“Here we demand victories. Since I arrived, we have had to go out and win every game. The club is growing and we demand that. We’re going to improve and we’re going to work hard to do that. We have to take it one game at a time. We mustn’t think beyond the Cádiz game.”

Difficulty of the game against Cádiz

“They won the other day and their confidence is growing. Their fans will be behind them as much as possible. We have to be strong knowing that there will be times when we don’t have a good time. Their objective is salvation and they will want to take points at home.”

El Villarreal, a tough nut to crack

“It’s been going on for years because of the way the club works and Emery’s approach. He has been able to create a very strong group that believes in this model of play. It’s flattering that they speak well of us. We feel strong. This has to be a great year for our fans and for us.”
