Marcelino García Toral has praised his side’s showing in the derby
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media after the important win in the derby against Valencia CF (1-0).
“We saw a competitive game, we know that Valencia are a good team and there were alternatives in the dominance of the game and we generated much more.
The victory is fair, and in the first half we had chances and the penalty to open the scoring, so it was a nice game,” said the Yellows coach about the match in the first intervention.
In addition, he wanted to thank his players for their attitude over the last few months: “I’m grateful. The team has total determination, attitude, enthusiasm and that is transferred to the competition and we have an extraordinary run of form, which in the end is thanks to hard work.”
However, Marcelino stresses that there are still nine games left and we mustn’t get complacent: “I don’t want to look too far ahead, there are still nine games left. We’re in a good dynamic and if we were capable of winning these games like we did in the last run, it would give us a chance. But now we have to rest, which will allow us to recover our players, and start thinking about Atlético Madrid.”
“We are dedicated to work, to try to find enough harmony to understand this beautiful job as something where we must all be united and work as one. This team’s self-esteem was at rock bottom and these results have helped us to recover what we are,” said the head coach about the team’s growth.
Finally, Marcelino wanted to thank the fans for their support in the derby: “This year we have all suffered, the fans have seen many defeats for their team at home but we are changing this dynamic. So, let’s hope the fans can cheer as they did on Thursday and as they have been doing lately.”
