Unai Emery underlined the opportunity to beat the Israeli side to stay top of the group

Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery appeared in a remote press conference ahead of this Thursday’s European game against Maccabi Tel Aviv (9pm CET, Estadio de la Cerámica). The Yellows manager underlined that the game against the Israeli side is important for the Submarine’s European aspirations. “The difficulties we come up against tomorrow will be high. We will try and perform as best as possible to be better than our opponents as our aim is to win our group. Winning would give us a really important impulse ahead of the rest of the group stage.”

He praised the Israeli side: “I have maximum respect. They’re a recognised team in Europe, where they can show off their football. They have important footballers, who are good on the ball and pass from the back, but their front line, dangerous and decisive, is what stands out. They have varied alternatives.”

Emery believes in his team and thinks they can hurt Maccabi Tel Aviv, combined with the fact both are fighting to be group leaders: “We need to be rigorous, demanding and keep concentrating to face the game with the required intensity. Line up with the best 11 players posible to perform at a high level. We believe in our chances and we will give our all.”

Manu Trigueros: “We’re strong with a lot of energy”

Midfielder Manu Trigueros appeared alongside the manager, underlining the team’s intentions ahead of this new European game: “We want to win to stay top. If we win tomorrow, it will make things easier in the upcoming games. We believe in the hard work we’re doing and we need to follow on from recent games.”
