Full of respect ahead of a visit to El Alcoraz

Unai Emery underlined that SD Huesca are a better team than the table suggests

Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the press in a remote press conference ahead of the upcoming game against SD Huesca (Saturday, 2pm CET). The Yellows will visit El Alcoraz hoping to kick off the second half of the season with a win.

SD Huesca, capable opponents who play well

“They’re a team whose current situation in the table doesn’t reflect their good play. Draws have penalised them a lot. Now they have changed manager and they will try and turn things around with Pacheta.”

Respecting a side hungry for victory

“We will come up against a very difficult match. A lot of things can happen in 90 minutes. We respect our opponents, who will go into the game with a lot of enthusiasm and will be keen to get the victory.”

Injuries and a lack of recovery time

“We are going into the game positively, keen to start the second half of the season with a win. We have injury absences and there is mínimum recovery time between the games. We will have to see how the players evolve to see who is in the best shape to play tomorrow.”

Controlling the game to contain SD Huesca’s strengths

“We always plan for games thinking about our opponents as a collective, the way they like to play, the pitch and the weather. They will want to press aggressively and have possession of the ball. With that in mind, we have to be able to dominate, to control and to be stronger than them with or without the ball. We will also need to work hard in both areas.”

The Excitement of the Copa del Rey

“The Copa del Rey is a competition full of surprises, even more so with this single-leg format. We will approach it with caution, but also with confidence and excitement. We are in the last 16. Every round gets more difficult. We aren’t favourites to win it, but we want to be hopefuls. The Copa del Rey excites us.”
