Frustrating defeat in Alcorcón (1-0)

Villarreal B lose by the smallest of margins to a direct opponent and move further away from the objective

Villarreal B lost against AD Alcorcón, a direct rival in the fight for survival (1-0) in a game that seemed to be a final for both teams due to the importance of the head-to-head record, as well as the three vital points for the objective. A solitary goal from Chiki deprived the Mini Submarine of anything positive at the Municipal de Santo Domingo.

Pablo Iñiguez was conditioned from the first minute of the game when he received a yellow card for a late challenge. Even so, the first chances fell to Miguel Álvarez’s men. Carlo had a chance with a shot from the edge of the area after a good run by Tasende down the left flank, where his partnership with Carlos Romero was a real headache for the home side. Ontiveros and Álex Forés, twice, also had chances to open the scoring before the break.

During the first part of the second half, the Mini Submarine came out convinced that the draw was not enough and Forés and Novoa had their chances as soon as they re-entered the field of play with shots that went high. However, the home side had the chance to hit back with a double chance that forced Iker Álvarez to make a superb save.

A minute after this came Alcorcón’s goal, scored by Chiki, who shot from the edge of the area and his shot, close to the post, was impossible for the Andorran goalkeeper to stop. The Yellows tried their best against the fierce home defence, but to no avail and a tragic defeat at the Municipal de Santo Domingo was sealed.

The Mini Submarine will continue to fight for survival in the next round of games at home to Racing Ferrol.
