Fran Escribá: “We mustn’t lose hope”

LALIGA

The Manager said that the loss to Eibar is “part of the competition”

Villarreal Manager, Fran Escribá, prefers to look to the future with optimism. The Submarine lost their first LaLiga Santander match this season to Eibar (2-1), but the Manager saw many positives in the team’s performance: “If they hadn’t equalized from a set play we would have won 0-1. Without that foul I’m sure the team wouldn’t have let a goal in today, because we were playing well defensively. At this ground the details and the set plays are what decide matches”.

The Submarine Manager does not want the team to lose hope in spite of the loss in Ipurua: “You have to accept the loss for what it is and think about the next match. It has broken our good run, but now we have to turn the page. We had a lot of hope and enthusiasm, but we can’t let this loss effect that. They came back to win the match and this hurts us. We went all out for the win, but we couldn’t get it”.

The Yellows’ Manager highlighted the second clear penalty, after a foul on Víctor Ruiz that was not given, but said that the official’s job is difficult: “It’s hard to give two penalties to a team playing away from home, but I don’t like to talk about referees. I think he called what he saw”.

Escribá recognized that defeats will come and the first has come on LaLiga Santander Matchday 10: “It’s a bad day, but we have to accept that it is part of the competition. I wish it were the last one, but it’s logical to think a defeat is on its way when you’re on such a good run. The best thing to do is think about winning the next match”.

Now, the challenge is to beat Osmanlispor this Thursday at El Madrigal (9:05pm CET) on Matchday 4 in the Group stage of the UEFA Europa League. “This Thursday’s match is a really tough one. Osmanlispor are a very dangerous team that will try to get us on the counter. It will be a match we must make few mistakes in”.
