The Argentine footballer highlighted the team’s good reaction in LaLiga and hopes for a nice journey in the Champions League

Juan Foyth appeared in front of the media at the Miralcamp Training Ground today, ahead of this weekend’s match against Elche CF at the Martínez Valero. Here are the stand out things that Villarreal’s Argentine defender, who turns 24 today, had to say:

Reaction of the team

“I think that since the start of the season, we’ve been working with the aim of getting into Europe. A more ambitious objective would be to be in the top four. Two months ago, everyone thought we were out of the race, but in LaLiga, everything changes a lot if you put together a few wins in a row. Now, we need to go to Elche and get the three points.”

Rotations

“We’re all training the same way to be ready when the coach needs us. The other day (in the match against Atlético), we had a number of absences and everyone performed well, and you can see the hard work we put in.”

A centre-back or a full-back?

“I think when the team is performing well, everyone’s individual level improves. We’re all working for the good of the team. When I started this year, my mentality was to play in the position that I was told to play in without having any excuses. Sometimes my wife asks me if I’m still a centre-back or if I’m now a full-back. I think I’m a mix of the two. I always try and give my best in every position.”

Aims

“The aims I have, and the aims everyone else has, are to have a great journey in the Champions League, because it’s something historical for the club, and qualify for Europe. The individual objectives are linked to the team ones. When things are going well for the team, we all benefit.”
