Villarreal beat Sevilla thanks to an impressive Bacca hat-trick and a Gerard goal as fans returned to the Estadio de la Cerámica

Villarreal beat Sevilla (4-0) and their fans enjoyed their return to the Estadio de la Cerámica. Carlos Bacca put in an unstoppable performance, scoring a hat-trick against his former side. Gerard Moreno joined the party with a fantastic goal too.

There was something special about the Estadio de la Cerámica. The fans were back. 5,000 people cheered on their team after 14 long months away from their home and from their passion, Villarreal CF. They came up against a Sevilla FC side with a lot of quality and consistency. A hard test for Unai Emery’s men.

The Andalusian side started the game at the Estadio de la Cerámica on top. They dominated the opening minutes and could have gone ahead through Luuk de Jong twice.

As the game went on, the Yellows, fired up by their fans, started to feel more comfortable in the game. In the 20th minute, a Pau Torres header from a corner went just wide of Bono’s goal.

The next chance for the Yellows went in. In the 33th minute, Bacca rose higher than anyone else in the box, and with an unstoppable header, put the Yellows ahead at the Estadio de la Cerámica. After the Villarreal goal, Sergio Asenjo made a fantastic save, with cat-like reflexes denying a close-range de Jong effort.

The second half started the best way possible for the Submarine. With two minutes gone, Bacca got in behind the defence, got on the end of a fantastic Gerard assist, dribbled past Bono and scored his second of the afternoon.

Soon after, Sevilla were left with ten men after Diego Carlos was sent off for a second yellow after bringing Yeremy down. In the 66th minute, Gerard showed his quality once more, scoring a great goal with a placed effort past Bono.

When there was already a party atmosphere at the Estadio de la Cerámica, Bacca scored the fourth of the afternoon. His third. A perfect performance from the Colombian, who made the most of a mistake from the Sevilla goalkeeper to score his third hat-trick for the Yellows.
