The Villarreal B team beat Hércules with two goals from Carlitos López and are fourth provisionally
It was a crucial tie and emotions were running high. The Villarreal B team made an impressive comeback against Hércules from Alicante and are in fourth place for the time being, with Atlético Baleares and Badalona still to play this Sunday. The Yellows Reserves beat a direct play-off rival in an intense tie that swung the locals’ way thanks to two goals by Carlitos López, completing the comeback after Tari’s opening goal.
The side from Alicante took the lead in the 17th minute. Peña crossed the ball in from the left wing and Tari headed the ball in at the far post. Villarreal B had the chance to pull one back just before the break. Pau was pulled down by Lolo in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Carlos Martínez stepped up to take the spot kick but Chema saved.
The comeback came in the second half by the name of: Carlitos López. The Yellows number 11 scored the equalizer from a driven cross by Peris from the left wing, he controlled the ball perfectly and fired a sure shot past Chema.
With a quarter of an hour left until the final whistle Villarreal scored the decisive second. It was from a free kick that saw Lolo sent off as he was shown his second yellow card. The Yellows strategic play worked perfectly. Cantalapiedra chipped the ball up for Carlos Martínez, who instead of hitting the volley put a great pass over the top of the wall to Carlitos López, who controlled it on his chest and smashed it into the top of the net past Chema. Absolutely brilliant. With this win, Villarreal B have gone six games without losing.
The Villarreal B team’s next match is away against Atlético Levante on Sunday 23rd April at 5pm CET.
