The defender believes that March will be key if the Yellows want to stay up
Villarreal defender Álvaro González appeared in front of the media this lunchtime to analyse the current situation regarding the Yellows. The centre-back underlined the value of the performance in the defeat on Sunday to Atlético Madrid: “We could have got ahead early on with Toko Ekambi’s chance. The match would have turned out differently and we could have caused them more damage with quick attacks. It wasn’t to be and we had to adapt to the match. In the second half, we had a lot of the ball and we had a number of chances to score against them. Despite the defeat, we’re left with positive feelings. The team is alive. We’re seeing a completely different version of us from the one from recent months. Every game we’re feeling better and we need to make the most of that against Alavés.”
The Yellows’ No.3 put the spotlight on March, a month where Villarreal face important league games, as well as exciting European ties: “Next month is crucial. We have to continue with the good feelings and get out of the relegation zone within 30 days. The first step is beating Alavés on Saturday.”
Finally, Álvaro warned of Alavés’ strengths: “They’re a solid team who put everything on the line. They fight until the final whistle, as we saw in the first game against them this season. To beat them, we need to be, at least as intense as them and to play like we have done recently.”
