Villarreal B visit Real Sporting this Sunday at 2pm CEST

Villarreal B need to get back to picking up points away from home to build on the three very important points they picked up at La Cerámica against Racing de Ferrol and compete in the final stretch of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, with everything very evenly matched at the bottom of the table.

The Mini Submarine’s coach, Miguel Álvarez, appeared at the press conference prior to the final in Gijón against Real Sporting (Sunday, 2pm CEST), aware of the importance of the clash, but calm with the work carried out by his players during the week.

Here is what he had to say:

A game full of learning

“We’ve had two years where we’re experiencing games that are going to bring them closer to what professional football is. The ones we’ve had this season, plus all the ones we’ve had last year, is a very positive experience and a great learning experience. It’s a very nice match to compete in an incredible stadium.”

Critical situation

“At the beginning of the season, we know that there is a generational change. They are very different levels. The boys are where we have to be. I’m focused on the moment and now the most important thing is the objective we have set ourselves of going to Gijón to compete at the highest level. We know that we have to get points away from home and that means competing very well against a rival with a lot of potential. Whatever has to come, will come. We have to focus on the fact that it will be positive.”

Managing outings away from home

“We are trying to grow along the way. Both the coaching staff and the players know what we have to focus on. At home we play very well, getting points almost every time. Away it’s more difficult for us, because the teams are at home with their fans, they subdue us and we still don’t know how to play in that storm. Lately we’ve been competing better, they also create fewer chances against us, and we try to compete at the best level. However, sometimes you have to be realistic and if we can’t give anything more, we can’t give anything more.”

Absentees

“The team has worked very well preparing the match. We know what can bring us closer to a positive result. We have a lot of absentees, but you can’t go anywhere with excuses.”

Álex Forés

“That a player who is in the B team has scored 14 goals, with so many changes in the squad, without penalties… In terms of associative play, for example, he needs to improve, but it’s true that he has a great ability. The best thing about him is that he has a huge margin for improvement. He’s a player who right now has broken the barrier in a league like the second division.”
