A tribute to a legendary striker. Villarreal CF paid a well-deserved tribute to Gerard Moreno ahead of the league match against FC Barcelona. In the run-up to the match, after the players had taken to the pitch, the club honoured the Catalan player for having scored an impressive 107 goals in the yellow jersey, making him Villarreal CF’s all-time top scorer.

Villarreal CF’s director of Institutional Relations, Marcos Senna, was in charge of presenting Gerard with a commemorative shirt and a very special tile showing the typical goal celebration of the Submarine’s No.7. In addition, his wife and daughters also wanted to accompany the Catalan striker at this moment and went onto the pitch to take a photo with him.

The fans did not miss the opportunity and gave their idol a standing ovation, recognising his impressive career with Villarreal CF, with whom he has lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy (2021) and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League (2022). These two impressive sporting achievements are added to important individual merits he has achieved in yellow: best player of the season in the 2020/21 UEL, being among the 30 finalists for the Ballon d’Or or winning the Zarra Trophy twice (2020 and 2021).
