A review of Villarreal B and their brilliant campaign in the Second Division

Miguel Álvarez has given the opportunity to a total of 32 players over the course of the season

Villarreal B are a Second Division team. The side coached by Miguel Álvarez achieved the goal of survival with two games to spare, on Gameweek 40, after a 1-1 draw at Las Palmas thanks to a second-half goal from Mbacke.

After 42 games, the Yellows have finished the season in 18th position, with 50 points and a six-point cushion over the relegation zone. The balance of fixtures is 13 wins, 11 draws and 18 defeats. The Mini Submarine have been particularly strong at home, winning nine games and drawing six between their matches at the Mini Estadi and the Estadio de la Cerámica.

In addition to achieving the sporting objective, Miguel Álvarez has more than delivered on the training aspect, giving 32 players the opportunity to play in LaLiga SmartBank: Iker Álvarez, Jorgensen, Gianni, Carreira, Migue Leal, Dela, Mbacke, Pablo Iñiguez, Hugo Pérez, Abraham, Dani Tasende, Carlos Romero, Alberto del Moral, Carlo, Lozano, Pacheco, Geralnik, Rodrigo Alonso, Liberman Torres, Dani Clavijo, Dani Requena, Tiago Ojeda, Nikita Iosifov, Iker Goujon, Ramón Terrats, Haissem Hassan, Diego Collado, Javi Ontiveros, Álex Forés, Juan Carlos Arana, Álex Millán and Fer Niño.

Of the 32 players who have played for Villarreal B, 26 have made their debut in the second division (only Sergio Carreira, Sergio Lozano, Javi Ontiveros, Ramón Terrats, Pablo Iñiguez and Haissem Hassan had played there before). A fantastic opportunity for many of the young talents who came to Miralcamp during their formative years with the firm intention of becoming professional footballers.

Youth is another of the great virtues of this team. The average age of Villarreal B this season has been 21.65 years, which is significantly lower than the rest of the teams in the second division.
