Gerard, Cazorla, Pau and Chukwueze all scored during the international break

The seven Villarreal CF national team members played key roles for their countries. Albiol, Gerard and Cazorla were starters in the game between Spain and Malta (7-0), while Pau came on in the second half as a substitute for the captain Sergio Ramos.

To cap off a great weekend which ended up being a goal fest for La Roja at the Ramón de Carranza, three of the four Yellows playing scored against Malta. Cazorla was the first on the scoresheet, with the second in the 41st minute. Then in the second half, Pau, who had just come on, debuted with a stunning chested finish. The finishing touch to the excellent performance from the Villarreal players was Gerard’s goal, the sixth of the game, having already provided three assists.

The Spanish national team will play again tonight against Romania in the Wanda Metropolitano (8:45pm) to put an end to their qualification stage for the Euro 2020 competition.
