Marcelino highlights his side’s solid defensive performance
The Villarreal manager, Marcelino García Toral, emphasized the great image his players gave off tonight, showing they are impeccable in defence and how solid they are as a team. “I think we’ve played some great games away from home this season. Villarreal have great away results and I believe we’ve shown that we are a very difficult team to beat. We’ve been able to get points against very tough opponents, like Deportivo and Real Sociedad, we’ve beat Real Madrid, Valencia… we’ve played against powerful sides and are realizing how difficult it is to win in this second round of games. I think we’re having a great season and much better than was predicted of us”.
The manager added that the Submarine performed to a high level at such a difficult place to play in San Mamés. “It’s always complicated to play against Athletic because they pressure you constantly, even more so at their home ground. So, you have to be persistent and always look to get past their first line of defence to exploit them. I’m really satisfied with the match because they are a quality opponent, but we were brave and showed great compeitiveness to get the draw”.
