Unai Emery looks to repeat the last away league match with Villarreal and wants to continue the good run in LaLiga
Villarreal head coach Unai Emery has appeared in front of the media ahead of LaLiga Matchday 34, where the Yellows will face Alavés. The Basque manager underlined the difficulty of the game, and the importance of the remaining matches for the Submarine.
A tight calendar
“It is going to be very difficult. The difficulty lies with there only being 15 points up for grabs and we are five behind Betis and three behind Real Sociedad. We have a demanding fixture list left, we’re playing against a team in the relegation zone next. We’ve played games like that before, and we didn’t know how to respond. It is going to be tough, and depending on how we respond, our chances could diminish. The team is in good shape, but we’ve also had setbacks while we’ve been in good shape before. We need to continue doing what we did in Getafe, I have good memories of that game.”
Aiming to get another away win
“It’s a challenge that we need to be aware of, last time away from home we got a win in Getafe which confirmed we could respond and play well, whereas in the three previous matches like that we didn’t. We will see if we’re capable of responding. LaLiga is about consistency and sets your aims. With what we’re experiencing in the Champions League, there are decisions that can be justified to be at our best in every competition. That’s why we have a 25-man squad, and we’re expecting to see us at our best tomorrow in Vitoria and on Tuesday against Liverpool.”
A full squad
“We will train and then get conclusions to see who is ready. My idea is to count on as many players as possible, and use them. We’ve been capable of combining different players and using different starting lineups. We’re always looking for the right team. When you don’t want to improve, you’re left behind, and tomorrow will show that. It’s a challenge, some will have played on Wednesday, and others won’t.”
An opposition who need the points
“We’re facing an opposition who have been waiting for this match all week, and for them it’s an opportunity for their survival chances. Their fans will push them on a lot, it will be like a final for them.”
